How to guide: Hang a gallery of art

Guide to hanging a grouping of artwork, photographs or driftwood

1.The most important thing to remember when creating your gallery wall is that there is no specific formula for creating a great display. Have fun with it and let it flow and be organic, allow the art to shine.

2. Creating a gallery wall is the perfect way to make a personal statement at home.Gallery walls can also be used as a unique way to document and tell a story of your travels and experiences. You can include photographs from recent trips and prints and artwork that you bought while on vacation.Art is personal and can speak volumes about you, so let it tell your story.

3. Before placing your collection of pieces lay your artwork on the floor to try out a few layouts. You can even use painters tape to outline the size of the wall to help you visualize. Take cell phone pics of a few variations that you like as you go. To start, use two to four pieces hung in the center at eye level to establish your anchor or focal point and fill in from there. The same would work for driftwood pieces. Start in the center and work your way out, they should flow together.

 4. As you are designing your gallery wall, think about the placement of each piece. Take into consideration the height and location of your sofa and or chairs. When installing artwork over furniture, leave at least eight inches between the base of the frame and the top of the furniture.

5. Mixing media, textures, styles, elements and finds is the best way to create a unique wall of art. Don't be afraid to get creative with your display, after all it is your display of pieces you love.
